An Explosive ROBLOX Release

Yesterday morning we shipped one of the biggest releases in ROBLOX history. At ROBLOX we do big releases and small releases. Small releases are full of fixes – big releases change the game. Some big releases in the past include the release that allowed users to make their places multiplayer, the release that introduced tools and character animation, the release that introduced ROBUX, and the release that featured hats for sale. This is the first release featuring code by Wookong. And, yes, it is a big release.

Wookong joined the ROBLOX team three months ago. Since then he’s been quietly hacking away on a new graphics engine that will allow us to greatly improve the visual appeal of ROBLOX. Our changes thus far are very modest, but Wookong has laid a solid foundation to build on. In the coming months, you will see ROBLOX begin to look better and better. In the meantime, we will have to be content with better lighting, texture filtering, and explosions!

Stands a Builderman

Builderman recently met with a mysterious journalist at a local Starbricks coffee shop to be interviewed for an upcoming tell-all book. The identity of the journalist remains unknown, as she was wearing a paper sack over her head. Around the office we’ve been calling her simply Ms. X.

Ms. X’s book, tentatively entitled “Fait Lux: The Life and Times of a Builderman”, is due out in stores this holiday season. In the meantime, here’s a portion of the interview transcript. Builderman will be signing copies of the new book at an opening event in Bricks & Noble on December 1st.

The Four Mysterious Objects Revealed…

About a month ago, clockwork and I were messing around and creating new hats to accompany the big Builders Club release. Clockwork had the great idea of publishing a hat that was just a box, to see if anyone would buy it. For fun, we called it the Mysterious Object and tried to sell it for 50 tix. The idea was that the object would be a grab bag – people would buy it and then it would morph into something else later.

ReeseMcBlox is our new Community Manager. The ROBLOX community has grown quite a bit in the past couple of months and it’s high time we got someone to help look after it. ReeseMcBlox is going to be heading up the moderation team, hanging out in the forums, answering questions that users might have, and possibly running some contests.
